High altitude sickness - first aid

High altitude sickness - first aid

Illness is caused by lack of oxygen in the air with lower barometric pressure at high altitudes of over 3,000 meters.

Any or all of the following symptoms may be present:
1. Headache (headache)
2. Extreme tiredness (fatigue)
3. Delirium
4. Feeling that he could not draw breath. The victim may try to pull more air, causing hyperventilation disorders
5. Chest pain, feeling "tight neck"
6. Anxiety, insomnia
7. Nausea and vomiting
8. Fainting
9. Hallucinations
10.Terror

What are the first steps to be taken?

1. Maintain an open airway. Respiratory and circulatory resuscitation resuscitation make if necessary.
2. Victim calm in order to avoid loss of oxygen due to agitation (tachycardia, tachypnea, hypoventilation). If you reach a source of oxygen, make victim inspiring supplemental oxygen.
3. If breathing spontaneously, no longer give additional air maneuvers by practicing mouth to mouth.
4. Keep victim at rest until it can breathe normally. It is very important that you keep calm, so that the victim to remain quiet.
5. It may be necessary to lower the victim to a lower altitude.
6. Do not send the only victim, accompanied her.
7. It is desirable that the victim be medically assisted.

The river height can be understood fear of heights. This is due psyche that height associated with imminent risk of death. Victim quiet and should not be explained as nothing bad happens. Consulting a psychologist is required and it will determine whether to consult a psychiatrist or a few sessions of therapy can resolve the situation.

Above certain heights, even climbers should have them permanently oxygen. Also, must be gradual climb in altitude, for the body to get used to atomosfera low in oxygen.
