Trichinellosis Trichinosis is an infection or a cylindrical-nematode worm parasite. They use a host to survive and reproduce. Humans are accidentally infected when eating cooked meat that contains inappropriate temperatures Trichinella spiralis larvae. Majotitatea infections do not cause symptoms, but massive exposure can cause various clinical manifestations such as diarrhea, fever, myalgia and prostration.
Trichinella is developing others in a single host and parasite without requiring an arthropod as an intermediate host. The intensity and frequency of exposure to infected meat determine the severity of infection. The disease is linked to meat cooking habits and methods of refrigeration.
After ingestion of Trichinella larvae in skeletal muscle is localized and does not remain in the digestive tract, such coproparasitologic exam is irrelevant. Initial diagnosis based on signs and symptoms of classic muscle inflammation, fever and swelling periorbiculara. To confirm diagnosis are necessary blood tests and muscle biopsy to detect larvae.
Treatment using anthelmintics: albendazole, mebendazole if the infection is found in the intestinal phase, for the muscle is no longer effective in that they may try steroids to painkillers. Mortality is low, infected patients are usually asymptomatic, those with clinical symptoms, it improves in 2-3 weeks. If the infection is severe, clinical may take up to 2-3 months. Factors affecting morbidity include the amount of larvae ingested, the species to which they belong, spiralis has the highest degree of infectiousness, and host immune system status. Patients die because emancierii, pneumonia, pulmonary embolism, encephalitis or heart failure with or without arrhythmias. Death occurs at 4-8 weeks, but earlier, in 2-3 weeks. Children seem to be more resistant to infection, yet their symptoms are more intense, they also develop fever and complications status recovers faster.
