Gestational Diabetes Signs and symptoms

Gestational Diabetes
Signs and symptoms

As in other types of diabetes, gestational diabetes is generally asymptomatic. In rare cases, these symptoms may occur:
- Unusual fatigue
- polyuria (release of large quantities of urine)
- Intense thirst

Pregnancy and glucose metabolism

During the quarter 2 and 3 of pregnancy, a woman's need for insulin is 2 -3 times higher. This explains the progressive increase during pregnancy, the production of hormones antiinsulina (eg, placental hormones, cortisol and growth hormone), which reduce the effect of insulin on the body. These hormones essential role in proper development of a task, so the health of mother and fetus. Normally, this resistance to insulin stimulates the pancreas to produce a larger amount of insulin to compensate. Women are predisposed to diabetes whose pancreas can not produce the extra insulin.
