Spontaneous levator rectal pain syndrome is caused by a muscle spasm near the location of the anus.
Fugax proctalgia pear syndrome (sudden rectal pain) and coccidinia (pain near the coccyx) are variants of levator syndrome.
Sharp anal pain fugax proctalgia involves and affects 8% of the population. Afectriunea is more common in women and in people younger than 45 years. Although the exact cause is not known anal sphincter spasm, doctors believe that being responsible.
Coccidinia affects 6% of the population and is more common in women. It is also called syndrome levator years and refers to painful spasms of muscles occurred in the group and support surrounding the anus.
Muscle spasm is not dependent on the defecation act. The pain usually lasts less than 20 minutes. May be intense or faint located high in the rectum. Insidious and can occur spontaneously or can awaken a person from sleep. The pain seems to be relieved by passing gas or fecal bowl. In severe cases, pain can persist for hours and occur frequently recurring.
Diagnosis of ano-rectal require a physical examination to exclude other conditions that can cause similar symptoms, such as thrombosed hemorrhoids, anal fissures or abscesses. Physical examination is usually normal and the anal muscles may be relaxed or contracted. Mild symptoms may be ameliorated by hot bath or mild analgesics like aspirin. The severe galvanic stimulation may require therapy to relieve symptoms.
Levator syndrome is a life-threatening illness but can cause high rates of morbidity. The most important complication of the disease is not to recognize it and guiding the patient to surgery for a herniated spinal disc.
The prognosis depends on early recognition and treatment of metabolic syndrome. Because it is a pathological condition of the soft tissue tends to become chronic.
