Hearing Aids
Role of hearing aids is to amplify sounds, not to restore hearing impaired function. Their effectiveness depends on two important factors: the nature and degree of hearing loss.
Types of hearing aids:
Retroauricular hearing instrument (BTE) - as the name indicates, this type of prosthesis is placed behind the pinna. It contains a microphone, amplifier and receiver. Body hearing aid is installed behind the ear, is anchored with a piece called Oliva. This guide is taken directly from the sound and the ear mold.
Ear hearing aid - Conca (ITE) - This type of prosthesis is installed directly into concise (central depression pinna), extending into the ear canal. All parts of the prosthesis are placed in a tube adapted ear size.
Ear hearing aid - Canal (ITC) - works the same way as the previous type of prosthesis, but its small size make it less visible.
Ear hearing aid - Completely in canal (CIC) - this type of prosthesis is used for mild to moderate hearing loss. Due to its size, the prosthesis is almost invisible. The operation is similar to other types of in-ear hearing aids.
Components of a hearing aid
All hearing aids contain the same basic components:
Microphone - is meant to capture sound, then turning them into electricity. In general, the sound is closer to the microphone, as you will be better captured. Amplifier - increases the intensity of electricity coming from the microphone. - Receiver transforms electrical energy into sound. Battery - provides the energy needed hearing aid operation. Oliva - serves to anchor the prosthesis in the ear when hearing aids retroauricular. Also intended to guide the sound to the ear canal hearing aid.
