Sinusitis is an inflammation that affects one or more of four pairs of cranial bone cavities called sinuses. Sinus inflammation is usually caused by an infection.

Sinuses are hollow bones of the skull, covered with a mucous membrane lining the nasal identical. Each sinus communicates with the nasal passages by small tubes that provide air flow.

Sinuses are appropriately named their settlement: maxillary sinus, frontal, sphenoidal and ethmoid. Similarly, according to the infected sinus, frontal sinus alone, maxillary, sphenoid or ethmoid.

A viral or bacterial nasal infection leads to inflammation of nasal mucosa, there is a risk obstruarii sinuses. Mucus is not normally drained, creating favorable conditions multiplication of microbes. Pain and pressure sensation in the face, characteristic of sinusitis is due to accumulation of purulent collections in the sinuses.
