Vitiligo is diagnosed by Wood's lamp examination in people with white skin and shows fluorescence.

Histological examination.
Microscopic examination of involved skin shows a complete absence of melanocytes in association with a total loss of epidermal pigmentation. Perifoliculare lymphocytic infiltrates can be seen from the side and superficial perivascular lesions, considered a cellular process mediated destruction of melanocytes. Degenerative changes were observed in keratinocytes and melanocytes in the skin lesion and the adjacent edges.

The differential diagnosis is made with the following conditions: Adisson disease syndrome Alezzandrini, chemical leucoderma, halo nevus, idiopathic hipomelanoza gutata, malignant melanoma, nevus anemic, piebaldism, pityriasis alba, postinflamatorie pigmentation, scleroderma, tinea versicolor, tuberous sclerosis, Vogt-Koyanagi syndrome -Harada.
