Fibromyalgia - Diagnosis

Laboratory studies:
-patients have significant abnormalities or characteristic of fibromyalgia
-Laboratory studies are important to exclude other diagnoses
complete blood count is performed, urine analysis
thyroid-stimulating hormone-evaluates shows elements ofhypothyroidism with fibromyalgia, especially diffuse pain and fatigue

erythrocyte-sedimentation rate is normal in fibromyalgia
-antinuclear antibodies, many patients with lupus erythematosusand fibromyalgia have
rheumatoid-factor, many patients with rheumatoid arthritis andfibromyalgia have.

Procedures performed.
Evaluation of sleep. If sleep does not improve with conservativemeasures (elimination of caffeine, administration of hypnotics)indicate the evaluation of sleep disorders.
Dolometria. It is a technique for determining algometrie usingsimple pressure-loaded on four specific points of pain associatedwith fibromyalgia: epicondilii side, middle trapezius. It is useful fordiagnosis and therapy guidance.
Different questionnaires and psychometric testing inventoryincludes pain and pain tolerance of the individual.
The differential diagnosis is made ​​with the following diseases:Addison's disease, anxiety, Cushing syndrome, depression,dismenorea, endometriosis, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome,opioid abuse, personality disorders, polymyositis and poststressdisorders, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's syndrome, lupuserythematosus, hyperparathyroidism , hypochondriasis,hypothyroidism, migraine headaches.
