Imaging Studies:
Simple lateral radiograph is the preferred method to assess thetranslation of people with spinal spondylolisthesis and is excellentfor tracking the progression of the condition. Lateral radiograph isbecause the translation of place in the sagittal plane and is emphasized in bipedal position. X-ray films in flexion, extension, orassess the degree of instability of the vertebra involved. They arealso useful to detect occult spondylolisthesis. Anterioposterioararadiograph provides limited information in cases of mild illness, however severe it can demonstrate to the sign "invertedNapoleon's hat" because L5 is seen through the sacrum.
Bone scan is useful for determining the acute stage of injury.Positive scan result in negative radiographic evidence suggestingrecent injury. Negative scan result that suggests a positive scan oldinjury is not healed.
CT scan is very sensitive for evaluating pars interarticularis anduseful in determining acute stage translations. They are the besttests for bone details. I am an excellent imaging modality toevaluate the vertebral joints. Help identify cartilage defects thatcause nerve compression.
MRI is important in cases of brain damage. This imaging modalityis excellent in compression of the dura and observation in cases ofdegeneration in the posterior arch is the left rear.
The differential diagnosis is made with the following conditions:degenerative disc disease, disc injuries, discogenica pain syndrome, lumbosacral radiculopathy, miofasciala pain, osteomyelitis, disciita, osteomul osteoid, bone cyst aneurysm, condroblastomul, Scheuermann disease.
