HIV esophagitis
In patients with HIV / AIDS have been described giant esophageal ulcers. These were called idiopathic.
Although some patients with HIV seroconversion have suffered recently, most are chronic patients with CD4 + lymphocyte count below 100 cells/mm3.
Esophageal ulcers caused by HIV esophagitis is 40% of all patients with HIV / AIDS.

Signs and Symptoms, Diagnosis

Patients with HIV esophagitis odinofagiei shows typical acute onset of severe dysphagia, or both. If they grow in can be seen associated with seroconversion and a maculopapular rash in superiara half of the body.

Esofagografia double contrast highlights one or more giant ulcers, flat surrounded by a cloud of small ulcers and edema.
To exclude cytomegalovirus esophagitis requires endoscopy biopsy, brushing or viral cell culture.

Treatment includes corticosteroids and antiviral therapy for HIV.

Other viruses that can cause the esophagus are human papillomavirus, and varicella-zoster virus.
