Meningitis

Meningitis is an infectious inflammation consisting of membranes (meninges) and cerebrospinal fluid to brain and spinal cord wrap.
 
In the past, most meningitis cases occurred in children under 5years. But because children's vaccination program, currently themajority of cases occur between 15 and 24 years. Also, the incidence of meningitis is higher in elderly than children.
 
The cause of meningitis is usually a viral infection, but bacterialand fungal infections are also responsible for the disease. The degree of severity and optimal treatment depends on the cause of the infection. Bacterial meningitis is generally less severe than viralmeningitis, requiring prompt medical treatment.
 
Untreated, bacterial meningitis can be fatal. If you suspect that youor your family member shows signs and symptoms of meningitis,seek medical advice immediately. The form of meningitis thatsuffering can be identified only by a physician using specific tests.
