Fever in infants may have numerous causes. The child may bedehydrated or too thick can be dressed in a relatively hotenvironment (the rule is that the baby be dressed in a suit of clothesmore than an adult).
But most often, fever is caused by an infection. Immune systemdetects a foreign body - a bacterium or virus - and reacts, causingtemperature rise. Some bacteria and viruses are sensitive to high temperatures and can be easily destroyed by the immune system.Thus, fever is a defense mechanism - indicates an infection andcontribute to the fight against it.
