The most common signs and symptoms of asthma in children are:
  - Cough
  - Wheezing (wheezing)
  - Shortness of breath, shallow (dyspnea)
  - Chest congestion
  - Constriction (tightening) chest

During a crisis:
  - Inability to sit in a horizontal position
  - sweating
  - Increased heart rate
  - Anxiety, confusion

In some cases, asthma is indicated only by a persistent cough which often occursbefore bedtime or after exercise.

Warning signs:

  - The child has difficulty breathing after exertion
  - The occurrence of crises cough, especially nocturnal
