Anthrax threatens southern Russia

After the first cases of anthrax at a cattle ranch Kalmukia region, Russian Emergency Situations Ministry has issued an alert Monday for the entire area south of the Russian Federation in relation to risk of infectious disease outbreaks expansion, Interfax reports.

The day before, in the village of Kalmukia Amursan state of emergency was imposed after several cattle died of anthrax infestation.

The risk of further outbreaks of infectious disease dangerous to humans and animals, there is still North Caucasus and other regions of southern Russia, warns the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.

In the field, the competent authorities shall take the necessary preventive sanitary facilities, water, food distribution and educational institutions and retail markets.

Currently, the village of Kalmukia Amursan, 12 people employed on the farm in the village, is under observation.
