Membranes are considered as esophageal mucosal and submucosal repliuri Finally, while the rings are thicker, consisting of mucosa, submucosa and muscle.
Upper esophagus membranes are usually located in the region subcricoidiana having a circular part of the partial fibrosis, eccentric lumen at a few millimeters below the crico-pharyngeal muscle. Their frequency is 12-15%. Lower esophageal ring is first discovered by a Schatzki ring located in the esophageal-gastric junction. It is a fixed ring, inextensibil, represented by a snotty repliu, ring, having the appearance of incomplete aperture visible only if the segment above and below are intended for barium.
Membranes and esophageal rings does not change while evolving mudculare contractions are transient and malignant or benign stenosis progressive nature and require surgical treatment.
Dysphagia as a symptom of a clinically important reduction in food cause a decrease in iron absorption in some patients. The condition is frequently encountered in women and menstrual losses secondary anemia. In 10% of the membranes they can develop malignant lesions of the esophagus and hypopharynx.
Clinical diagnosis is difficult. Barium X-rays is not enough substance to highlight membrane because of rapid transit opaque index during swallowing. Membrane is much clearer in cineradiografie form of a partial fibrosis repliu the area located on the anterior wall of the esophagus, near the crico-pharyngeal muscle, which may be confused.
Treatment consists of membrane rupture with the endoscope, followed by correction of anemia and vitamin deficiencies. For treatment of Schatzki ring is dictated by symptoms. Obstructive phenomena require dilations with bubble probes and the results are unfavorable. Rarely will perform surgery gastrotomie, digital expansion cardiei or section, if any hiatal hernia with gastroesophageal reflux disease will be associated with antireflux surgery.
