Imaging Studies
Radiography is indicated if a history of trauma is present.Occasionally a fragment of bone visualized suggesting avulsionfracture at the tendinous insertion. A rough layout of the bone-tendon insertion site suggests periostitis. Calcium deposits along the tendon can be seen in calcified tendinopathy.
Other sutdii imaging as ultrasound, magnetic resonance imagingis reserved for clarifying the diagnosis.
Ultrasound is quick, noninvasive and portable to assesstendinopathy. Mucoid degeneration and decreases tendonechogenitatea cracking. On ultrasound the tendon changes arenoted as alterations in morphology and echogenitatea's. It is usefulto assess the damage cape Achilles tendon and rotator.
The differential diagnosis is made with the following conditions:abdominal pain from old, soft tissue injuries, arthritis, bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, compartment syndrome, deep veinthrombosis and thrombophlebitis, gonorrhea, gout andpseudogout, the hand infections, plantar fasciitis, psoriasis ,reactive arthritis, tenosinovitele, osteoarthritis.
