Treatment
Bleeding can usually be controlled by squeezing the nose wings for10 minutes. If the maneuver fails, it introduced a compress soakedwith a vasoconstrictor and a local anesthetic, and compression of the nose is reversed another 10 minutes. Bleeding source can then be cauterized with an electrocautery or silver nitrate.
The patient must meet the following tips:
- Avoid physical exertion
- Place an ice cube root of the nose to stop bleeding support
- avoid ingestion of blood - this can cause nausea and vomiting.
- applying a compress soaked in hydrogen peroxide or vaselinecompresses
- the head should be tilted back slightly to avoid ingestion orinhalation of blood. Warning though: should avoid pushing the headtoo far backwards - this could lead to blood flow in the posteriorwall of the pharynx.
- Avoid aspirin - because it has an anticoagulant (prevents bloodclotting)
Prevention
Persons likely to have nosebleeds (children, elderly) may takesome preventive measures:
- Avoid overheating the room - we recommend a temperature of15-17 ° C, as cold air is more humid
- applying a fatty cream (Vaseline) inside your nose
- nasal sprays and saline solutions are a solution to prevent drying of nasal mucosa
- avoid making frequent use of aspirin - without consulting doctor
- for people who suffer from bleeding should avoid alcohol or hot drinks, smoking cessation and avoiding application of warmcompresses on your face
