External Otitis Signs and symptoms

Otitis externa
Signs and symptoms

Otitis externa is manifested by pain (otalgia) that grows in intensity and sometimes pressing on the ear by pruritus (itching). External ear canal is red and sore. Sometimes they see a white fluid leaking from your ear.

Symptoms vary depending on the cause of external otitis. Thus, inflammation may be diffuse, affecting the entire ear canal or may be presented only as a boil.

The first manifestations of external otitis are itching and decreased auditory acuity. The pain comes later, especially when the duct is obstructed by the swelling that occurs after infection.

The temperature rise is not seen only in patients with severe external otitis.

Diagnosis

Eardrum examination highlights a decrease in auditory acuity more or less important. At this stage, it is important to differentiate between internal and otitis otitis externa.
In diabetic patients and those with weakened immune systems, is required isolation of otitis caused by pseudomonas, bacillus as expansion of the skull can lead to paralysis of one or more cranial nerves.
