Diagnosis

Laryngitis is often a symptom of another disease, and identify the causes that lead to inflammation of the lining of the larynx, allowing for necessary measures to prevent a new episode of laryngitis. In cases of hoarseness that persists more than two weeks, proceed to an examination of the neck to eliminate the possibility of cancer, especially in smokers.

In this exam, called laryngoscopy, the doctor examines the larynx with a direct optical instrument (laryngoscope).

If symptoms are severe, especially in children, the doctor may have performed an X-ray of the throat or lungs.
