Hearing loss - Preventing hearing loss

Hearing loss related to aging can be prevented. However, somemeasures can be taken to prevent hearing loss caused by noisetrauma and consists mainly in avoiding exposure to loud noises.

Occupational exposure to noise (construction sites, use ofexplosives or firearms) fonoprotectoare recommend usingheadphones.

Vaccinating children is also important because it reduces the riskof infectious diseases that could result in permanent loss ofhearing or deafness function.
Certain drugs must be avoided to prevent auditory nerve lesions(those with high ototoxicity - especially aminoglycosides). If it is notpossible to avoid these medications, the dosage of the drugadministration should be closely monitored throughout treatment.Higher risk of ototoxicity when administering high doses or inprolonged treatments.
