Epilepsy - How epilepsy affects a child's life?

Most children with epilepsy can participate in normal activities for their age. Somesports (swimming, cycling) still require extra precautions with these children.
 
Also, most young people suffering from epilepsy can go to disco, use computers and can watch TV without these activities increase the risk of a crisis. However, if a type of epilepsy, photosensitive epilepsy, seizures are caused by stimulation flashing. This type of epilepsy is found with a electroencephalograms and treated with drugs.

Most children with epilepsy have the same IQ and same intellectual potential ashealthy children. However, frequent epileptic seizures can disrupt the child's learningpace. Academic difficulties of these children have attention disorders as the cause oftreatment-related absenteeism due to seizures and character disorders.
 
Some children with epilepsy may have intellectual disabilities, requiring extra help in school. Their parents may consider option of choosing a special school, withprofessional staff, to offer children the support they need.

Epilepsy does not change the character of a person, but some children are seen mood swings and behavior, they become irritable or withdrawn. Irritable or agitated behaviormay occur as a side effect of antiepileptic drugs.

Children are encouraged to discuss feelings about their illness. It is also important that they not be treated differently from siblings or friends.
