Malnutrition - Prevention and treatment

The safe and effective measures to prevent natural diet consists ofmalnutrition in the first 6 months of life (breast milk is the most complete and balanced food, with and immunological qualities, because antibodies).

Special attention should be given to children fed artificially on milktype and age appropriate weight, dilution and zahararea. Alsorequired compliance schedule immunizations and propertreatment of infections.

Treatment of mild and medium protein-calorie malnutrition (MPC)is based on individual nutritional balance, most cases healing by correcting the diet and ration caloric supplementation.

Treatment of severe forms of MPC comprises three stages. The first phase begins with fluid and electrolyte balance and acid-baseand treat infections. The second stage (or phase of repair) is dominated by dietary therapy. Convalescence, the third stage aims to restore body composition through a protein intake and energeticoptimum. The aim is to determine the acceleration of growth afterthe first 2-3 weeks of starting the diet. Recovery criteria consist in increasing the size and weight according to age.
