Tuberculous spondylitis - Pott disease - Signs and symptoms

Presentation of Pott's disease depends on the following:-Stage disease, the affected area-Presence of complications such as neurological deficits, abscesses and fistulae. The average duration of symptoms at diagnosis is 4 months and is due to debut with nonspecific back pain. The clinical picture includes: back pain, night sweats, fever, weight loss and anorexia. They can also develop a spinal mass with paresthesia, tremor, general weakness or tingling in the legs. Often the pain associated with Pott's disease cause a stuck position and went straight.Back pain is common and earliest symptom. People with Pott's Born to blame back pain for several weeks before reporting to the doctor. Pain can be caused by disease or spinal root.Constitutional symptoms of the disease are weight loss and fever.
Neurological abnormalities occur in 50% of cases and include spinal cord compression with paraplegia, paresis, hypoesthesia, pain and radicular syndrome ponytail. Progressive bone destruction leads to vertebral collapse and kyphosis. The spinal canal can be collapsed by abscesses, granulation tissue or direct dural invasion leading to spinal cord compression and neurological deficits. Cifotica deformation is caused by the collapse of the previous column. Injuries frequently result from thoracic spine to those of lumbar kyphosis. A cold abscess may develop if the infection extends to adjacent ligaments and soft tissues.Abscesses in the lumbar region can coborii until the psoas sheath femoral triangle and even erode the skin.
TB spine is unusual but potentially more severe neurological complications due. This condition is characterized by pain and stiffness. Patients with lower cervical disease may have dysphagia or stridor. Symptoms include stiff neck, snoring and neurological deficits.Clinical presentation of spinal tuberculosis in patients infected with HIV is similar to that of the HIV-negative, though disease tends to be more common in HIV-positive.Although the thoracic and lumbar regions of the spine are affected almost equally in patients with Pott's disease, thoracic spine is frequently reported that the area involved. Together, they represent 80% of the column localizations of the disease, the rest is the cervical spine.
