Allergic rhinitis - Signs and symptoms

Symptoms persist for as long as the person is exposed toallergens:

  - watery nasal secretions
  - pruritus (itching) nasal
  - nasal congestion
  - heavy tearing and redness
  - Cascading sneezing
  - tension in the sinus region
  - cough
  - wheezing (wheezing)
  - altered taste, hearing and smell acuity (especially in children)
  - fatigue, irritability and insomnia, when symptoms last a few days
  - headache (headache)

The period of sensitization to an allergen and the symptoms canlast even a few years. For example, even if a child has problems with long term contact with a pet, it may be due to a recentlydiagnosed allergic rhinitis.
