Retrograde ejaculation - Causes

Retrograde ejaculation can be caused by many factors:

- Diabetes - retrograde ejaculation is often a complication ofdiabetes that affects the bladder neck sphincter

- bladder neck surgery or affecting the nerves that control muscles

Retrograde ejaculation can be a complication of surgicalprocedures such as prostatectomy (removal of prostate) or classictransurethral prostatectomy (removal of the prostate underendoscopic control).

- endoscopic surgery of the bladder neck control
- surgery to treat testicular cancer, colon or rectal
- neurological disorders
- Some medications can affect nerve function that controls the muscles involved in ejaculation: tricyclic antidepressants(amitriptyline, chlorpromazine, thioridazine) and medicines used to treat hypertension (guanethidine, reserpine)
- spinal cord injuries

In treatment of prostate disorders are increasingly preferred lessaggressive forms of surgery (such as transurethralelectrovaporizarea) to reduce the risk of retrograde ejaculation.Although these procedures are responsible for a small number ofcases of retrograde ejaculation, these are not indicated in allpatients.
Also, controlling blood sugar in diabetics can prevent retrograde ejaculation.
