IUD - intrauterine device
Types of IUDs available in Romania at the moment:
- Copper IUD: T Cu-380a;
- IUD with progestogen (levonorgestrel): Mirena.

Mechanisms of action
- Prevent the meeting of sperm and egg;
- Hampers movement of sperm in the female genital tract and reduces their ability to fertilize the egg (secondary mechanism);
- Prevent implantation of the egg in the uterus (secondary mechanism);
- Prevent ovulation production (progestogen IUD - the main mechanism).

efficiency
Very high - 0, 8 sarcini/100 women in the first year of use (even 0, 6/100 in the correct use) higher Mirena.

reversibility
Immediately after removing the IUD in the uterine cavity.

Common side effects:
- Changing the menstrual cycle;
- Spotting / spotting or breakthrough bleeding;
- Pain during menstruation.

Other side effects:
- Heavy bleeding, risk of secondary anemia - very rare in Copper IUD, Mirena exist if;
- Pain and severe cramps in the first 3-5 days after insertion;
- Perforation of the uterine wall - very rare if proper insertion.
