Xerostomia. Drought in the mouth?

Dry mouth sensation not given much attention. But if you're one of the thousands of people who suffer from chronic dry mouth cavity, you know how it is unpleasant, annoying and dangerous this feeling.

Xerostomia is the scientific name for mouth xerostomia uscata.De what seems to be a problem? Because saliva is important in lubricating the mouth to allow for proper chewing and swallowing. Dry mouth occurs when the salivary glands do not function normally or when they are nervous, upset or under stress. But if this feeling of dry mouth is always or almost always, can be uncomfortable and lead to serious health problems.

A dry mouth can reduce taste, chewing, swallowing (or swallowing) and talking. If this condition is not treated in time, a severe dry mouth can lead to a career high of teeth or mouth infections such as thrush.

Disease-treatment to the head or neck by X-ray
-Chemotherapy
-Stress

How can I treat dry mouth?

Sensation of dry mouth treatment is dependent on the conditions that cause this sensation. Your doctor may change the medication if it is suspected to cause this condition. Alternatively, drugs can be prescribed to increase saliva production, helping to eliminate dry mouth.

To prevent dry mouth can:

- To consume daily between 8 and 10 glasses of water to prevent dehydration
-When you eat, you drink water or caffeine-free drink to make chewing and swallowing easier
-Eat chewing gum or sugar-free candy, especially those who have a sour taste, they increase saliva production
-Avoid drinks such as tea, coffee or alcohol, which decrease the production of saliva
-Avoid smoking, which is one of the major causes of dry mouth

  1. Remember, if you have dry mouth, you need to be extra careful to keep your teeth healthy. Make sure you:

    1.Gently brush your teeth at least twice a day.
    2.Floss your teeth every day.
    3.Use toothpaste with fluoride in it. Most toothpastes sold at grocery and drug stores have fluoride in them.
    4.Avoid sticky, sugary foods. If you do eat them, brush immediately afterwards.
    5.Visit your dentist for a check-up at least twice a year. Your dentist might also suggest you use a prescription-strength fluoride gel (which is like a toothpaste) to help prevent dental decay.
