At what age menopause starts?

On average, menopause is installed at 51 years. But, from one woman to another, the age at which menopause occurs can vary between 40 to 55 years. In women who smoke than it generally occurs one or two years earlier. In addition, other genetic factors may be involved. Age at menopause is often the same mother and daughter.

Menopause is considered early when they occur before 40 years and after 55 years late.
Early menopause occurs in 1% of women and cause significant problems because it is very hard to accept the psychological. The causes are often unknown, although it appears that genetic factors are involved in this accelerated aging of the ovaries.

For other women, because early menopause is obvious. This is for patients undergoing treatment that modifies the ovaries, causing symptoms similar to menopause. But these events are temporary and disappear at the end of treatment. Other causes include surgery to remove the ovaries or chemotherapy in cancer treatment.
Surgically induced menopausal symptoms are similar to those presented by natural menopause (hot flashes, etc..) And increase the risk of developing osteoporosis due to estrogen deficiency. To limit this risk, physicians currently trying to avoid affecting the fertility of women with cancer.
