Hypnosis can reduce dental anxiety

Hypnosis can reduce dental anxiety

A team of researchers in Germany have found that hypnosis can reduce dental anxiety. Dental anxiety is quite common among patients, in some cases with extreme consequences.
Some people feel a tremendous fear when it comes to running to the dentist, get very nervous, shaking or faint. There are many people who avoid going to the dentist for several years because of anxiety sufferers. Consequently, they have high standards in terms of oral health, with the often painful experiences at the dentist.

Researchers at the German Society of Dental Hypnosis, found that patient anxiety cause tension when it comes to dental treatment, this tension increases patient anxiety.

Most German dentists treat patients with severe dental phobia with general anesthesia for refusing to be aware during the procedure, however, this method is not preferred, brings many risks, recovery time is quite long. In exchange for this procedure, dentists recommend patients hypnosis as a method that can control dental fear and anxiety.

Stephen Eitner, a dentist member of the German Society of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy, says that hypnosis helps patients to relax and be distracted from what happens in the treatment room. Patients feel much calmer and more sensitive to dentist's office procedures.
