Exclusive: Fixodent position against GSK product recalls

In early February, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) announced that it has made a voluntary precautionary measure: cast off adhesive zinc-containing denture in its portfolio that caused by excessive use and its long term presents a potential health risk.

Following this announcement, our site visitors wanted to know the position of Procter & Gamble, maker of Fixodent denture adhesive cream, the withdrawal of GSK similar products on the market. In this respect, we contacted company representatives and we are able to offer, exclusively, their position.
Exclusively Statement

"All Fixodent products are safe and effective when used as recommended in the prospectus or dentist. All our products are scientifically evaluated and continuously monitored to determine their safety and performance.

Fixodent formulations are different from other products, using half the amount of zinc present in Super Poligrip products. These formulations are on the market for 20 years and have been used safely by consumers.

All current formulations contain ingredients Fixodent recognized as safe for consumers in the quantities used.

Zinc is a common ingredient in many OTC products and various vital foods in your diet. In fact, multivitamins and zinc supplements are used regularly by many consumers.

With any dental adhesive risk of ingesting a small part of it during the day. However, we estimate that zinc normally ingested daily by proper use of the product is less than that of comparable multivitamin and a slice of beef.

We are aware of the occurrence of certain reports in the literature indicating a potential link between dental adhesives with zinc and certain neurological problems. These reports, however, reveals that people who participated in the study had used excessive amounts of dental adhesive.

When used as recommended, the amount of zinc that could be ingested daily use and Fixodent Fixodent correct pro is comparable to the amount of zinc in normal food sources.
